В начале XIX в. члены общества основали утопические коммуны [ commune] в штатах Пенсильвания и Индиана. Коммуны процветали лишь до смерти Раппа в 1847, хотя и после нее еще привлекали новых последователей. В 1903 из-за многочисленных просчетов их экономическое положение оказалось под угрозой краха, поэтому их собственность пришлось продать. истПоселок на юго-востоке штата Индиана, на берегу р. Уобаш [ Wabash River]. Место основания двух известных общин [ commune]. Первая из них - "Гармония" ["Harmonie"] была создана в 1814 раппитами [Rappites] во главе с лидером общества "Гармония" [ Harmony Society] Г. Раппом [ Rapp, George]. В 1825 колония была продана группе социалистов-утопистов во главе с Р. Оуэном [ Owen, Robert Dale], сыном известного английского социалиста-утописта, и переименована в "Новую Гармонию". В 1826 был принят устав "Общины равенства Новая Гармония" ["The New Harmony Community of Equality"]. Впервые в истории США колонисты создали бесплатный детский сад, ремесленное училище и ввели совместное обучение мальчиков и девочек [ coeducation]. Из-за отсутствия реальной власти жизнь в общине фактически свелась к анархии. В мае 1827 Оуэн признал провал эксперимента, но община еще просуществовала до 1828.
